“Part of the artist’s job is to make the commonplace singular...”
photographer Sally MannWe live in an area of great natural beauty. Within an easy drive from Klamath Falls we can find mountains, waterfalls, and the wonder of Crater Lake. A little farther away are magnificent redwood trees and the Pacific coast. I enjoy photographing all of those things! But perhaps even more, I like photographing scenes that a person might just pass by if they are not looking attentively: a tumbleweed in a canal, a single tree against a hillside of many trees, the reflections of some cattails, the gnarled roots of a driftwood tree. Nature gives us many wondrous sights, if we will venture out mindfully and without hurry. I strive to capture these views that are passed overlooked by most, and I have conviction that if the viewer takes the time to look carefully, they will find that each photograph has something to give.
